Unlike traditional braces that use brackets and wires, clear aligners are custom-made, removable trays crafted from a clear, medical-grade plastic material.

Clear aligner FAQs

A series of custom plastic aligners apply pressure to the teeth. Over time, the position of teeth is adjusted to improve the alignment and appearance.

Attachments are small tooth-coloured blocks that are glued onto the surface of teeth for the aligner to grab onto. These attachments are required for some tooth movements. Your orthodontist can show you exactly which teeth will be involved. It is unlikely that all teeth will require attachments. When treatment is finished, these attachments are simply polished away.

Yes. In some cases, clear aligners are an even better option than braces for children. Please ask your orthodontist for more information to see if this is an option for your child.

Consultation: Your journey begins with a consultation with your orthodontist. They will assess your teeth and determine if clear aligners are a suitable treatment option for you.
Customised treatment plan: Using 3D scans and images, your orthodontist designs a personalised treatment plan, mapping out the movement of your teeth throughout the process.
Aligner manufacturing: A series of custom aligners is 3D printed and each set is worn for approximately 7 to 14 days before progressing to the next set.
Regular appointments: Regular appointments with your orthodontist ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. These appointments are usually schedule once every two months.
Reveal your new smile: As you advance through the aligner series, you will start to notice the transformation of your smile. Upon completing the treatment, you'll unveil your beautifully aligned teeth and smile!

Treatment length depends on the complexity of your individual case. Some clear aligner treatments can be completed in as little as 6 months. Treatment times often range between 12 to 18 months. If your case is very complex, treatment time may extend beyond 18 months.

Yes. A retainer is necessary after treatment to help your teeth maintain the desired alignment. There are several types of retainers and your orthodontist will explain which is the best for you. You will also be shown how to wear the retainer and given clear instructions regarding how to maintain the retainer and how long it should be worn.
